Ayo Arena

The old seed-sowing game of Nigeria. Climb a ladder of rivals, each one sharper than the last.

How to play

  1. The board. Two rows of 6 pits, 4 seeds in each. Your row is the one closest to you (the left column on a phone). The big trays at the ends hold captured seeds; yours is the one on your side.
  2. Your move. Tap one of your glowing pits. You lift every seed in it and drop them one by one into the next pits, going counter-clockwise: along your row, then back along the rival's row.
  3. Capture. If your last seed lands in a rival pit that now holds 2 or 3 seeds, you capture them. Keep going backwards: every rival pit before it that also holds 2 or 3 is captured too.
  4. The small print. A pit with 12 or more seeds skips the pit it started from. You can't capture all of the rival's seeds in one move (nothing is taken). If the rival has no seeds, you must make a move that gives them some.
  5. Win. The first to capture 25 seeds wins. Keys 1 to 6 also pick your pits.
  6. The ladder. Beat each rival to face a smarter one. One loss ends your run. Sign in on start.ng and your best run lands on the leaderboard.

Quick rules
  • Tap a glowing pit: its seeds are sown one per pit, counter-clockwise.
  • Last seed in a rival pit that now has 2 or 3 seeds: you capture it (and the 2s/3s behind it).
  • First to 25 seeds wins. If the rival is empty, you must feed them.
